BMW M3 Sedan

The second generation BMW M3 was an entirely new car and a different one too, marking an end to an era of uncompromising sports cars characterized by their competitive edge and driver demand. In its place emerged an elegant and sophisticated coupé with a powerful and cultured six-cylinder engine. This four-valve engine boasted of 210 kW or 286 hp, thanks to the VANOS variable valve timing, which was an innovation that optimised torque, power, and fuel consumption. A pioneering naturally aspirated engine, it generated 320 newton metres at 3600 revolutions and a peak value of 230 newton metres at almost idle speed, earning it the title of world champion. At an incredible 97 hp for each litre of displacement and 108 newton metres per litre of displacement, the BMW M3 had a power that no other naturally aspirated engine came close to. With a sprint of 0-100 km/h in 6.0 seconds, and the acceleration stopping at a speed of 250 km/h due to the car's self-imposed voluntary limit, the M3 was a driving force to be reckoned with. Not to be outdone, the DIN consumption value was impressive for a mid-range car at 9.1 litres of super. On top of that, a catalytic converter was a standard feature. To meet the requirements of the new engine, a "stereo" oxygen sensor was developed to regulate the mixture of three cylinders through separate exhaust systems, helping the vehicle to far exceed the specified exhaust limits.
