BMW X5 eDrive Concept
The BMW X5 eDrive Concept gives a whole new meaning to efficient driving in the world of luxurious Sports Activity Vehicles (SAV). Showcased at the 2013 Frankfurt International Motor Show (IAA), the concept is the perfect embodiment of a seamless blend of top-notch efficiency and sporty performance with an additional dash of luxury. This vision is made possible with its BMW eDrive technology, producing an impressive 120 km/h (75 mph) speed, an all-electric range of 30 kilometres (19 miles) and an EU test cycle average of 3.8 litres/100 kilometres (74.3 mpg imp).
Comprising of a four-cylinder TwinPower Turbo combustion engine and a powerful 70 kW/95 hp electric motor, the BMW eDrive system is powered by a high-voltage lithium-ion battery which is also the work of the BMW Group. The battery can charge off any domestic power socket and will provide up to 30 kilometres (19 miles) of electric-only driving without any emissions. The battery is safely tucked away in the load area while still keeping it intact with its storage capacity. There are three driving modes to pick from: hybrid for performance and efficiency balance; pure electric for an emission-free drive; and Safe Battery mode for maintaining the battery charge.
