BMW i8 Concept
The BMW i8 Concept is a remarkable example of a modern, sustainable sports car. Its innovative plug-in hybrid system combines an electric drive system from the BMW i3 Concept at the front axle, with a 3-cylinder combustion engine giving 164 kW (220 hp)/300 Nm (221 lb-ft) at the rear. The electric motor is capable of powering the car on its own, but when working together they provide stunning performance with astounding fuel economy. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than 5 seconds and emits an average of only 5 to 7 litres per 100 kilometres (40.4 - 56.5 mpg imp) - unheard of for a vehicle of this performance. The large lithium-ion battery can be charged from a domestic power supply allowing for up to 35 kilometres (20 miles) of electric-only travel, while the dual-axle efficiency means energy is harvested when accelerating and when braking. Additionally, there is seating for four people meaning it has excellent daily practicality.
