Bugatti Veyron Centenaire 2009 posters

Bugatti Veyron Centenaire

Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. marked the centennial celebrations of 2009 with four extraordinary Bugatti Veyron specials at the Villa d'Este Concorso d'Eleganza. These special models hark back to Bugatti's illustrious motor-racing history, which has played a crucial role in establishing the legendary status of the brand.

One of the most prominent models associated with Bugatti is the Type 35 Grand Prix. Featuring the esteemed radiator grille and eight-spoke aluminium wheels, this racing model was so far ahead of its time that it revolutionized the automobile industry. It had hollow front axle configured to minimize weight, and springs passed through its axle for added stability. Its lightweight aluminium wheels had the brake drums built into them, allowing for the wheel to be removed and the brake to be accessed with great ease in the pit stop.

2000 wins in ten years

The blue racers first saw the light of day in 1924, at the Grand Prix held by Automobil Club de France in Lyon. Characterized by intricate manufacturing and lightweight design, it went practically unchallenged in the decade that followed. During this time, the car won close to 2000 races - more than any other model ever. Grand Prix races were highly fashionable in the 1920s, and Bugatti was not the only manufacturer interested in boosting it products' reputation by winning matches. Almost every weekend, Europe witnessed different races in different countries at popular circuits such as Targa Florio, Le Mans, Monza and Spa, as well as Rome, Nice, Antibes and the Alsace village.
