Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Bernar Venet
Bugatti, the legendary supercar-maker, invited French artist Bernar Venet to create a work of art that combines his vision and passions with their celebrated
Veyron Grand Sport. Venet embraced the challenge, and the resulting sculpture is a remarkable blend of artistic concept and technical possibilities. It seamlessly integrates the symbol of speed with a captivating, painterly exterior and an interior that evokes the world of haute couture. This one-of-a-kind piece of art will be on view at the Rubell Family Collection in Miami during Art Basel Miami Beach.
Describing his creative process, Venet comments: "A Bugatti is a work of art itself, one that immerses both its witness and its driver in new dimensions. I found the prospect of using my passion for mathematical equations and scientific treatises in a three-dimensional form highly appealing. It seemed a logical yet novel approach to this specific collaboration and undertaking. The outcome certainly meets the artistic standards I strive for, and gives the vehicle a mythical quality."
The artistic movements of the first half of the twentieth century often drew inspiration from cars, as objects of desire; they represented speed as the ultimate aim in their artwork, including drawings, paintings and sculptures. In the 1970s, many celebrated artists such as Robert Rauschenberg, Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol, began to transform cars into works of art, referred to as "art cars." It's a tradition that has endured until, and beyond, the 1980s.
