Bugatti Veyron Super Sport

On a sun-drenched Saturday at 25 degrees, representatives from the German Technical Inspection Agency (TÃœV) and Guinness Book of Records were present as Bugatti Pilote Officiel Pierre Henri Raphanel attempted to set a new world speed record with the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport on the proving grounds of the Volkswagen Group near Ehra-Lessien (Wolfsburg). Raphanel donned his helmet and gloves, and drew the safety belts tight before the technicians ran one last check: tire pressure, temperature, all systems were go. And then, the orange and black Bugatti roared out of the starting gate, with Raphanel pushing it to its absolute limits. For one hour, the car drove from south to north, then back again in the opposite direction, with nobody allowed to touch it but its driver. Finally, upon his return, Raphanel crossed the light barrier, and the GPS-tachometer registered 427, 933 km/h. On the other side, it reached a jaw-dropping 434,211 km/h. With both of these speeds combined, the average top speed was calculated at 431,072 km/h (268 mph). Even the engineering team from Bugatti were taken aback by this incredible result.
