Buick Regal

In 1997, the Century and the Regal were consolidated into versions of the same car, built on the W platform that was shared between the Oldsmobile Intrigue, Pontiac Grand Prix and Chevrolet Impala. The Regal was slightly longer than the Century and only offered a four-door sedan model, with differentiating features mostly cosmetically. The Regal served as the upmarket option with larger engines and more luxurious trim - including heated leather seats, a Monsoon 8-speaker surround sound system, dual climate control and a generous interior space. During the seven-year run of this version, few alterations occurred. The '97½ to '04 Buick Regals were manufactured with two engines; the 3800 Series II 90° V6 pushrod engine with a 231 in³ displacement. The Buick Regal LS featured a 200 HP, naturally aspirated L36 engine, while the Buick Regal GS had a 240 HP, supercharged L67 engine. Straight from the factory, the LS achieved a 1/4 mile ET of close to 16 seconds, and the GS achieved a 1/4 mile ET of around 15 seconds - swiftly demonstrating its potential. When introduced, Buick marketed the Regal as the "car for the supercharged family".
