Buick Rendezvous

The Buick Rendezvous, which has been in production since 2002, is a sport utility vehicle produced by the Buick division of General Motors. Background With most SUV drivers rarely driving off-road, the demand for a car-based "crossover SUV" grew, as customers wanted cargo capacity, elevated seating and a suggestion of an outdoor lifestyle, but with better fuel economy, comfort and decreased risk of rolling over compared to traditional SUVs. This type of vehicle had already been popularized by the Lexus RX300, so this became an attractive market for Buick. Technology and notable features The Rendezvous was marked as a combination between a minivan, a luxury car and an SUV, as it offered seating for up to seven, a smooth ride and handling, truck-styling and available all wheel drive. It was the first truck in Buick’s lineup since 1923 and was assembled in the Ramos Arizpe, Mexico assembly plant alongside the Pontiac Aztek. Rather than four wheel drive, the Rendezvous featured ‘Versatrak’, a full-time, fully-automatic all wheel drive system. This was suitable for use in snow and wet weather, and for moderate off-road surfaces, but wasn’t designed for serious off-road terrain.
