Buick Rendezvous 2003 posters

Buick Rendezvous

The Buick Rendezvous is the sport utility vehicle produced by the Buick division of General Motors, first introduced in the spring of 2001 as a 2002 model year vehicle.

Background

New "crossover SUVs" were designed to provide the attributes of traditional SUVs such as cargo carrying capacity, elevated seating height and an active outdoor lifestyle, but with less of the negative attributes typically associated with them such as poor gas mileage, uncomfortable ride, high step-in height, and propensity to roll over. The car-based "soft-road" luxury SUV, exemplified by the successful Lexus RX300, was a concept Buick followed to target the profitable SUV market.

Technology and Notable Features

The Rendezvous was Buick's first truck in its lineup since the 1923s, and was a combination of the best attributes of a minivan, luxury automobile and an SUV. It was produced at General Motors' Ramos Arizpe, Mexico assembly plant, and shared an assembly line with the Pontiac Aztek. For all-wheel drive traction, the Rendezvous offered Versatrak, a full-time, fully-automatic system that provided sure-footedness in the snow and wet, and could handle moderate off-road surfaces, but was not meant for extreme off-road usage.
