Buick Riviera Concept
At the 2013 Auto Shanghai, Buick made its global debut of the new Riviera concept vehicle. The coupe brings together contemporary aesthetics and innovative technologies, like plug-in hybrid electric vehicle propulsion. Developed by GM's Shanghai GM and Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center (PATAC) joint ventures in Shanghai, the Riviera marks a new era for the Buick brand, which has a rich history of 110 years.
Elegant Design Inspired by the Dynamic Nature of Water
Taking influence from the Chinese adage "The greatest good is like water," the eye-catching Riviera concept is shaped with sweeping, agile textures. In addition, its deep outlines and beautiful atmosphere are also reminiscent of a flowing river. Ed Welburn, General Motors' Vice President of Global Design, stated, "Riviera is a design study of the future expression of Buick design with its elegant athletic shape, sculptural beauty, and precision execution. It is a great opportunity to share Buick's future design language and technology strategy." Not only that, the Buick symbol, "sweep spear," is presented with three-dimensional elements to resemble a wave in motion. Moreover, making use of unique gull-wing doors, the Riviera exudes a vibrant sophistication. To finish, the car has a jade-inspired finish in ice celadon.
