Buick Skylark 1953 posters

Buick Skylark

In celebration of Buick's 50th anniversary, General Motors launched three specialty convertibles in 1953; the Buick Skylark, Oldsmobile Fiesta and Cadillac Eldorado. The Skylark proved the most popular of the three, with 1,690 units produced - quite an impressive feat, given its exorbitant list price of over $5,000. Nevertheless, many Skylarks were sold at discounted prices after failing to sell in dealer showrooms. All 1,069 Skylarks made in 1953 and 1954 were available only in convertible form and closely resembled its 2-door Roadmaster counterpart. The model designation for the Skylark was 76X, while the model designation for the Roadmaster convertible was 76R; however, the Skylark was better equipped and cost approximately $3,200. The 1953 Skylark was upgraded with a V8 engine and a 12-volt electrical system, marking the first time Buick had used either in their production vehicles. Additionally, the Skylark featured full-cutout wheel openings and a unique cut-down door tracing the rear window, a style element that was later adopted by many automobile brands.
