Cadillac ATS-V.R
The all-new, up-to-600-horsepower Cadillac ATS-V.R race car was unveiled at the Circuit of the Americas, one of country's pre-eminent racing venues, in 2015. This is the first time the iconic brand has begun competing in the FIA GT3 class, which consists of elite, high-performance vehicles like Aston Martin, Audi, Bentley, BMW, Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren and Porsche.
The ATS-V.R is based on the upcoming 2016 Cadillac ATS-V Coupe, which takes on the brand's first compact performance model. This Coupe, alongside the ATS-V sedan, debuted at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show.
The ATS-V.R features various modifications to meet FIA GT3 specifications, such as larger twin BorgWarner turbochargers, increased capacity intercoolers, competition engine management, a direct, side-exiting exhaust and a carbon fiber front splitter and corner-mounted dive planes. Similarly, the fenders have been redesigned to contain FIA-mandated tire sizes to maximize aerodynamics and achieve a weight distribution of 49 percent front and 51 percent rear.
The Twing Turbo 3.6L V-6 engine under the hood has plenty of power at its disposal, making it an impressive force on the track. Andy Pilgrim, Cadillac Racing driver, said: "The engine torque is remarkable, as always, pulling strongly out of the corners."
Cadillac Racing's driver, Johnny O'Connell, is also looking forward to the performance of the ATS-V.R: "On top of its power, its aerodynamic package should pay off in the fast corners and I'm looking forward to unleashing it." The racing team already has 26 wins, 91 podium finishes (including wins) and 22 pole positions under its belt with the CTS-V sedan and CTS-V Coupe race cars, and they hope to add another successful chapter to their story with the ATS-V.R.
