Cadillac CTSV Race Car

Continuing to establish its technical capabilities and performance, Cadillac today unveiled the CTS-V race car, the most powerful model in the marque's lineup. The new car is designed for the 2004 SCCA Speed World Challenge, a competitive race series in North America for production-based vehicles. "This is a momentous day for Cadillac," said Mark LaNeve, General Manager of Cadillac. "The CTS-V race car attests to the ambitious changes Cadillac is undergoing. It truly demonstrates our commitment to luxury performance to our enthusiasts." Release of the CTS-V race car is a result of the formation of the GM Performance Division, a new facility created to develop enthusiast models of production vehicles. The CTS-V, which was launched in late 2003, initiated Cadillac's foray into the high-performance luxury car sector and was the first vehicle to feature the division's V-series badge. "The CTS-V race car is a fantastic adaptation," said Doug Duchardt, GM Racing Director. "The CTS and CTS-V are engineered with superior performance making them ideal to be converted into a race car. Keeping many of the parts, technologies and processes of the production vehicles, we found it easy to develop the CTS-V race car." Retaining 73 percent of its production elements, the CTS-V race car is powered by a 5.7L overhead valve V-8 engine capable of producing greater than 500 horsepower at 7600 rpm. Additionally, its 25-gallon fuel tank allows it to cover the 50 minute sprint races of the series without needing to pit stop. Its top speed is estimated to exceed 165 mph. To test its endurance, the vehicle has been tested at Germany's renowned Nürburgring and will be participating in upcoming speed events in North America. Driven by championship-winning sports car racers Max Angelelli and Andy Pilgrim, a factory-backed two-car team from Cadillac will make their track debut at the SCCA World Challenge race supporting the 12 Hours of Sebring in March 2004. As the newest addition to Cadillac's 2004 lineup, the CTS, CTS-V, SRX, Seville, DeVille, XLR, Escalade, Escalade EXT and Escalade ESV all bring quality, reliability and power to the driver.
