Cadillac Eldorado

The Cadillac Series 62 Eldorado, introduced in 1953 alongside the Oldsmobile 98 Fiesta and Buick Roadmaster Skylark, is a limited-production specialty convertible. It is a production version of the 1952 El Dorado "Golden Anniversary" concept car and had some of the same features such as bumper bullets (aka dagmars) and a wraparound windshield. It is well-known for its distinctive dip in the sheetmetal at the bottom of the side windows, an iconic design feature popularized by General Motors' styling chief Harley Earl. The car came in four unique colors (Aztec Red, Alpine White, Azure Blue and Artisan Ochre) and convertible tops available in either black or white Orlon. Air conditioning and wire wheels were optional. Badging was limited to a gold-colored "Eldorado" nameplate on the dash. The convertible top could be hidden with a hard tonneau cover. The vehicle was 220.8 inches long and 80.1 inches wide and was equipped with features such as windshield washers, a signal-seeking radio, power windows and a heater. Despite its luxury, the Eldorado only comprised .5% of Cadillac's sales in 1953, with a price tag of US$7,750.
