Cadillac Eldorado

The 1992 Eldorado was all new, featuring exterior and interior styling inspired by the 1988 Cadillac Solitaire show car. It was much larger than its predecessor - 11" longer, 3" wider, and heavier - and the window glass was frameless. Cadillac's Northstar V8 engine was also available in two different power variants, 270 and 295 hp (220 kW), replacing the previous 200 hp (150 kW) 4.9 L engine. Sales improved upon its introduction, though never again reaching record heights. Throughout the remainder of the decade, the Eldorado underwent several changes and upgrades throughout its production, such as the addition of a passenger side airbag and updated cosmetic changes, like new bumpers, side cladding, and a new grille. For 1996 the interior was given a modern update, with a new upholstery style, larger analog gauge cluster, relocated climate control, newly-designed stereo facings, and standard daytime running lights. Adding to the technology, a Rainsense wipers feature was included that same year. The Eldorado was further modernized in 1997 with the addition of the integrated Chassis Control System, a microprocessor-regulated system involving the engine, traction control, Stabilitrak electronic stability control, steering, and adaptive CVRSS, with the purpose of improving driver responsiveness, performance, and safety. The Eldorado with these features was sold under the Cadillac ETC (Eldorado Touring Coupe) and ESC (Eldorado Sport Coupe) trim, but nonetheless faced declining sales. The Eldorado entered the new millennium largely unchanged with some upgrades matching those of the 1999 Seville. In 2001, GM announced that 2002 would be this model's last year in production, celebrating the occasion with 1500 limited-edition cars of white and red - the same colors from the original 1953 convertible - with a special exhaust note imitating the first and a dash-mounted plaque labeling each car's production sequence. On April 22, 2002, the Lansing Craft Centre ended production of the Eldorado and retooled for the Chevrolet SSR.
