Cadillac Eldorado ETC

The 1992 Eldorado was redesigned, taking its design cues from the 1988 Cadillac Solitaire show car. It was considerably bigger than the older model, incorporating size advantages of approximately 11" length-wise, 3" width-wise, and a considerable increase in weight. It was equipped with frameless window glass, and the new Northstar V8 engine which offered two power outputs of 270 and 295 hp (220 kW). Although sales rose, they did not reach the level of its predecessor. For the rest of the decade, the Eldorado only had minor changes, with a notable highlight of the passengerside airbag being added as standard in 1993. Additionally, there was a fresh styling of bumpers, side cladding, grille in 1995, as well as a new upholstery style, larger analog gauge cluster, relocated climate control system, and updated stereo faces with standard daytime running lights added in 1996. The ETC also got rain-sensing wipers referred to as "Rainsense". In 1997, Microprocessor integration of engine, traction control, Stabilitrak electronic stability control, steering, and adaptive CVRSS were added to the Integrated Chassis Control System, with the aim of boosting responsiveness and safety. There were reports of a 1999 Eldorado redesign, similar to that of the Seville in 1998, but that never eventuated. The car maintained much of its original look and features up until the end of production. It was available as both the ETC (Eldorado Touring Coupe) or ESC (Eldorado Sport Coupe). In 2001 GM confirmed the Eldorado would cease production for 2002, its 50th model year, in commemoration of which they manufactured a limited production run of 1,596 cars, in either red or white -- the colours available on the original 1953 convertible. These unique models featured a tuned exhaust note remniscent of early Eldorados, as well as a commemorative plate indicating its sequence in production. Production ended on April 22, 2002, with the Lansing Craft Centre retooled to build the Chevrolet SSR.
