Cadillac Escalade EXT

The Cadillac Escalade is a full-size luxury sport utility vehicle (SUV) produced by the General Motors subsidiary, Cadillac. It was the division's first major foray into the popular SUV marketplace when introduced for the 1999 model year, driven mainly by competing German and Japanese offerings, as well as Ford's 1998 release of the Lincoln Navigator. The Escalade project was authorized and moved into production in only 10 months. The standard Escalade is manufactured in Arlington, Texas, while the Escalade EXT pickup and Cadillac BLS car are sourced from outside of the United States, both made in Silao, Mexico. By the time of its discontinuation, the rear-wheel drive Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham in 1996 had left a space that the Escalade would fill in the limousine market. After 2002, the Escalade was redesigned to bring it closer into line with Cadillac's new global design theme. The Escalade was not the first Chevrolet-based Cadillacs, with the first-generation Seville and the mid-1980s Cimarron both founded on the entry-level Chevy Nova and Cavalier, respectively. The Escalade has popular appeal to automobile after-market tuners, who customize vehicles for usually affluent customers. While such work is not sanctioned by the Cadillac factory, modifications can be ordered through the dealers and completed by third-parties. The Escalade is also one of the most stolen vehicles. According to the Highway Loss Data Institute, from 2001 to 2003 it was the most-frequently taken automobile.
