Cadillac Seville SLS
The 2004 model year marks a transition for the Seville, as production for the all-new 2005 STS performance sedan begins in summer 2004. As a result, the only Seville available for 2004 is the SLS; it remains unchanged from the 2003 version, and production will end in December 2003. Cadillac will then retire the iconic Seville nameplate. According to Susan Docherty, Seville marketing manager, Cadillac discontinued the STS "for two primary reasons consistent with market demand" - value seekers will favor the lower-priced SLS, and dealers asked Cadillac to simplify the model choices in order to help them clear inventories before the arrival of the STS.
The STS, produced at the Lansing Grand River Assembly in Michigan, will become Cadillac's global flagship, offering Magnetic Ride Control and various other advanced features. The Seville SLS boasts a refreshed exterior for the 2003 model year along with StabiliTrak, OnStar, a Rainsense windshield wiper system, power-tilt and telescopic steering wheel, a Bose stereo system, an optional advanced navigation system, Ultrasonic Rear Parking Assist, and XM Satellite Radio (continental U.S. only). It is powered by a 4.6L dual-overhead-camshaft Northstar V-8 that generates 275 horsepower (205 kw) at 5600 rpm and 300 lb.-ft. (407 Nm) of torque at 4000 rpm, mated to the Hydra-Matic 4T80-E four-speed electronic automatic transmission. The SLS has been designed to appeal to confident, tech-savvy buyers who seek a sophisticated driving experience.
The Seville first appeared as coupe editions of the Eldorado series in 1956 and was re-introduced in 1976 as Cadillac's import fighter. The current Seville model has been in production since 1998 and is offered in more than 40 countries, making it Cadillac's first global product available in both left- and right-hand drive since 1941. It has earned a reputation of being the best front-wheel-drive performance car on the road.
