Caterham Seven 160
Caterham Cars has announced the UK opening of the order book for the Caterham Seven 160, the brand's new entry-level variant of the iconic sportscar. At £14,995 in component form, its engine, live axle rear suspension and lower weight embody the spirit of the earlier Sevens, while introducing impressive levels of efficiency and value for money.
The 160 is driven by an 80hp 660cc three-cylinder turbocharged engine, for a 0-60mph time of 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 100mph. It offers true sportscar charm and finesse, rather than power, to make the driving experience engaging.
With the help of Caterham Technology & Innovation (CTI), the performance output was fine-tuned from its standard 64hp to 80hp, in conjunction with greater fuel economy and reduced emissions. The vehicle meets EU5, EU6 and JC08 emissions regulations, entitling it to the number five at the end of its EU variant's name, the 165.
As CEO Graham Macdonald said: "The engineering challenges we faced were significant and the various arms of the Group have been successful in pooling facilities and expertise to achieve that."
Production of the Caterham Seven 160 and 165 is due to commence in January 2014, ready for the Spring.
