Caterham Supersport R
Caterham has added a powerful adaptation to its renowned range of Sevens, introducing the 180bhp two-litre Caterham Supersport R, a vehicle which offers track-bred dynamics. Boasting a more powerful engine, a five-speed gearbox and a limited-slip differential, this car holds a significant boost in outright performance compared to the standard Supersport. At a price of £24,995 (incl tax) for self-builds or £27,995 when fully-built, the Supersport R offers a 25% power increase over the standard model, and 5bhp more than the R300 road car.
This release reflects Caterham's strong commitment to further developing its iconic Seven, a car which it has engineered and built for 40 years. Graham Macdonald, Chief Executive of Caterham Cars, commented: “The Supersport's formula has struck a chord with driving enthusiasts and we are confident that, by extending the range to include an R model, we will be able to build on the original's success. The performance of the car is very impressive but, teamed with the accessibility of the suspension specification that works so effortlessly on the road and track on the base model, it is well-balanced, satisfying and fun in terms of the driving experience it offers.”
The Caterham Supersport R is designed for the track, with features such as Avon CR500 tyres, Supersport dampers and race springs, for agile yet supple handling. Inside the cabin, a bespoke Supersport steering wheel, integrated change-up light, composite race seats and four-point race harnesses, and an aero screen, complete the track-inspired feel. Weighing in at just 535kg, this vehicle packs a punch, and its 2-litre Ford Duratec engine is derived from Caterham's R300 race championship. The new model has been designed to sit above the 1.6-litre Supersport, and further extend the range.
