The Third-Generation Chevrolet Camaro was introduced in December 1981 for the ensuing 1982 model year. Sporting a range of firsts for the iconic muscle car, including a hatchback body style, four-cylinder engine, factory fuel injection and an array of transmission options, the 1982 Camaro came was offered in three models: Sport Coupe, Berlinetta, and Z28. The Sport Coupe model came equipped with a 2.5L (151 cu in) LQ9 four-cylinder engine, while the 2.8L (173 cu in) LC1 V6 and the 5.0L (305 cu in) LG4 V8 were available as optional. Standard dog dish-style hubcaps could be swapped up for full wheel covers and steel, five-spoke body-colored 14x7-inch rally wheels. Berlinetta buyers had the option of the LC1 V6, or the LG4 V8, with exclusive finned aluminum 14x7-inch wheels and gold accenting, body pin striping with a gold 'Berlinetta' badge, headlamp pockets and taillights featuring a gold and black horizontal divider bar. Standard features included a custom cloth interior, rear storage well cover and additional body and wheelhouse insulation and instrumentation. The 1982 Camaro was acknowledged as Motor Trend magazine's Car of the Year. 1987 model-year saw the rebirth of the Camaro in the form of a convertible, produced in small numbers by ASC. The third-generation Camaro was in production until the 1992 model year.
