The all-new 2014 Chevrolet Camaro line has been unveiled at the 2013 New York Auto Show, bringing back the iconic Z/28 model. Boasting an updated exterior design that enhances the high-performance aerodynamics, the Camaro Z/28 stands apart as the most proficient version of the model to date. Along an aerodynamic package that delivers downforce at speed, the sports car includes a lightweight, rev-happy, LS7 engine, plus carbon ceramic brakes, and integrated coolers for track use. All in all, these upgrades contribute to a significant reduction in the car's curb weight.
Speaking about the model, Mark Reuss, GM North America president declared: “The build sheet is the wish list of any racer: lightweight, high-revving, dry-sump LS7 engine; carbon-ceramic brakes; integrated coolers for track use; true aerodynamic downforce, and a significant reduction in curb weight. This car could only come from Chevrolet, and could only be called the Z/28.”
The original Z/28 was introduced in 1967 as an answer to the Sports Car Club of America's Trans-Am 2 class. Outfitted with a lighter, 302-cubic-inch V-8, plus quick-ratio steering and heavy-duty suspension for track use, this particular version wasn't available with an automatic transmission or air conditioning.
