Officials from Chevrolet and Indianapolis Motor Speedway unveiled the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS as the Indy 500 Pace Car at the Speedway's Hall of Fame Museum. "We've enjoyed a great partnership with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway throughout the years, and we are proud to have the honor of pacing the 2020 Indianapolis 500 in a Camaro," remarked Jim Campbell, General Manager, Chevrolet.
The 2020 Chevy Camaro Indianapolis 500 pace car boasts an enhanced modern sports car look with a hint to the car's and race's classic heritage. The first year for Camaro to lead the Indianapolis 500 fiercely was 1967, the year the Camaro was released. Since then, the car has served as the official Indy 500 Pace Car in 1969, 1982, 1993, and 2009.
The 2020 pace car is adorned in an impressive Inferno Orange Metallic paint scheme complemented with White Diamond rally stripes traversing the car from the front-end to the back and further to the instrument panel. The design pays tribute to the original rally stripe that debuted on the 1969 Indianapolis 500 Pace Car.
"Chevrolet has outdone itself with the 2020 Chevy Camaro SS pace car; it's beautiful," Jeff Belskus, president and CEO of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Corporation exclaimed. "The car's reminds us of the '500' history and its power to offer a grand sports car feel. The Chevy Camaro is sure to make a grand statement on the day of the race."
The 2020 Camaro SS Indy 500 Pace Car is outfitted with a powerful 400 hp 6.2L V-8 engine, an RS appearance package, leather interior with Inferno Orange interior accents, and distinctive design accents to afix the car to its mission. 2010 Indianapolis 500 event logos were painted on the car doors and honored in embroidered headrests of the driver and passenger seats. Additional unique highlights include all-new front grille insert, amber lens tail lamps, complete safety strobe light system, and GM Accessory mats with red and orange accent stitching.
At a starting price of $23,000, and up to 29 highway mpg, the new Chevrolet Camaro is a perfect budget-friendly sports car that seamlessly blends cost efficiency with high octane performance. Despite facing economic issues, the Camaro has surged against the competition and become the top-selling regular sports car for the past six months. Chevrolet recorded sales figures of more than 6,000 Camaros per month.
