Chevrolet Camaro SS Indy 500 Pace Car
At the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Museum, Chevrolet and Indianapolis Motor Speedway officials proudly unveiled the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS Indy 500 pace car. Jim Campbell, General Manager of Chevrolet, said: "We have enjoyed a great partnership with Indianapolis Motor Speedway for many years, and we are honored to have the privilege of leading the Indianapolis 500 with a Camaro this year."
The Chevrolet Camaro SS Indy 500 pace car of the twenty-first century looks to the future, while still paying homage to the history of both the car and the race. This isn't the first time the Camaro has lead the race - it has been chosen to pace the Indianapolis 500 in 1967, 1969, 1982, 1993 and 2009.
The 2010 pace car sports an impressive Inferno Orange Metallic paint job with White Diamond rally stripes that stretch from the front to the rear and down into the interior. This is a modern interpretation of the elegant rally stripe featured on the 1969 Indianapolis 500 Pace Car. Jeff Belskus, president and CEO of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Corporation, commented: "Chevrolet has outdone themselves with the 2010 Chevy Camaro SS Pace Car, it looks incredible! The design, which takes inspiration from the '500' history, and its sporty feel will be a hit with fans during the race."
The 2010 pace car is powered by a stock 400 horsepower 6.2L V-8 and is fitted with the RS appearance package and leather interior with Inferno Orange interior accents. Customizations unique to the pace car include the 2010 Indianapolis 500 event logo painted on the doors, all-new front grille insert and amber lens tail lamps. Plus, GM Accessory floor mats with red and orange accent stitching complete the look.
