Chevrolet Colorado LS Regular Cab
The Chevrolet Colorado and its twin, the GMC Canyon, were designed through a joint effort between GM's North American, Brazil, and Isuzu operations. Isuzu, a key participant in the design process, introduced its own version to the global market in 2002. To further their efforts in North America, Isuzu launched the Isuzu i-Series in late 2005. All Chevrolet and GMC models worldwide are based on the GMT355 platform, the same basis used for the Hummer H3. For markets outside North America, vehicles are built at a GM plant in Rayong, Thailand, and a GM plant in São José dos Campos, Brazil. Meanwhile, most North American-market vehicles were manufactured in Shreveport, Louisiana.
This cooperation of GM and Isuzu to build and sell light-duty trucks in North America returns to an original deal the two companies had in the 1970s when Chevrolet released the LUV (a rebadged Isuzu Faster). The Colorado/Canyon is available with either manual or automatic transmissions, and in rear-wheel or four-wheel drive. Standard, extended, and four-door crew cab body styles are also featured. Most models come with the 2.8 L LK5 I4 engine, but a 3.5 I5 engine is optional on all models and included with the Z71 package on four-door versions. The 4-speed automatic transmission is a standard feature on Z71 models. A former offering called the LT2 and LT3 package replaced the Z71.
The ZQ8 edition features a lower and more road-tuned "sport" suspension than the standard Z85, as well as 17 inch wheels, color-matched bumpers and grilles, and low profile fender flares. The Xtreme edition of the ZQ8 has a different front bumper, rear bumper, side skirts, fender flares, grille, headlights, and 18 inch wheels. This Xtreme option is a variation of the trim package first seen in the Chevrolet S-10.
