Chevrolet Colorado Regular Cab
The Chevrolet Colorado and its equivalent the GMC Canyon are General Motors' newest compact pickup trucks, launched in 2004 to replace the Chevrolet S10 and GMC Sonoma. Isuzu also took part on the design of this truck and started selling its version known as the "i-Series" at the end of 2005. This car was jointly made by GM's North American operations, GM's Brazil operations, and Isuzu, drawing its inspiration from the GMT355 which is the pickup for the GMT 345-based Hummer H3. The GM plants producing the Colorado and Canyon are in Shreveport, Louisiana and Rayong, Thailand.
The Colorado/Canyon offer both manual and automatic transmissions with 2WD or 4WD drivetrain options that come with standard, extended, and four-door crewcab bodystyles. Most Colorado/Canyon models come standard with the 2.8 L LK5 I4 engine, but the Z71 package with a more powerful 3.5 L L52 I5 engine is available as an option on all bodystyles, and comes standard with four-door variants. Moreover, the ZQ8 edition features a "sport" suspension for better on-road performance and comes with 17 inch wheels, color matched bumpers and grille, and low profile fender flares. The Xtreme edition of the ZQ8 has its own special set of components including front and rear bumpers, side skirts, fender flares, grille, headlights, and 18 inch wheels. All Colorado/Canyon, including the Hummer H3, are fitted with 6-lug rims (with a 6 lugs and 5.5" {139.7 mm} bolt circle), both 2WD and 4WD rims having the same backspacing.
In 2007, there were improvements to the Colorado and Canyon series, such as new engine models, 2.9 L LLV I4 and 3.7 L LLR, new exterior colors Deep Ruby (Sonoma Red in GMC), Pace Blue (Sport Blue in GMC) and Imperial Blue (Midnight Blue in GMC) as well as new tires and wheels. These are some of the cost cutting measures of GM, involving closing down its plant in Shreveport, Louisiana, and increasing production capacity in Thailand to export the Colorado to the US.
