Chevrolet Corvette C5-R

The Chevrolet Corvette C5-R was a grand touring racing car designed and built by Pratt & Miller and Chevrolet for use in endurance racing. It was based on the C5 generation of the Chevrolet Corvette sports car, but was made specifically for motorsports. Developing an impressive reputation, the C5-R won major races such as the 24 Hours of Daytona, 12 Hours of Sebring, 24 Hours of Le Mans, and championships in the American Le Mans Series. First debuting in 1999, the C5-R was a cornerstone of GM and Chevrolet's plans for factory team involvement in grand touring races worldwide. Riley & Scott also joined in the project to lead a second race team the following year. While limited to using elements of production Corvettes in their cars due to regulations, both GM and Pratt & Miller used modified road car mules in their development process. Despite being several generations old, the Corvette C5-R is still seen on tracks today, although it has essentially been replaced by the C6.R.
