Chevrolet Corvette ZR1
Chevrolet has made its mark with the reveal of the 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. This powerful American supercar symbolizes the culminating work of the most advanced technologies, engineering, and creative design.
"Chevrolet's goal with the new Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is to show what an American supercar can deliver, at a price that trumps exotics that cost two, three or four times as much - and does so with exceptional driveability," declared Ed Peper, Chevrolet General Manager.
The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1's performance:
- A LS9 6.2L supercharged V-8 engine to create an impressive 620 hp (462 kW) and 595 lb.-ft. of torque (823 Nm)
- Six-speed, close-ratio, race-hardened manual transmission
- High-capacity dual-disc clutch and larger axle half-shafts
- Suspension tuning for 1g cornering grip
- Fitted with Twenty-spoke 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels
- Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tires, P285/30ZR19 front and P335/25ZR20 rear, designed for the ZR1
- Standard carbon-ceramic, drilled disc brake rotors, 15.5-inch-diameter (394-mm) in front and 15-inch-diameter (380-mm) in the rear
- Upgraded, larger brake calipers with increased pad area
- Standard Magnetic Selective Ride Control with tuned suspension
In terms of design, it has distinctive features like carbon-fiber fenders that feature two vents, carbon-fiber hood with a raised, polycarbonate window, carbon-fiber roof panel, roof bow, front fascia splitter, and rocker moldings with clear-coated, exposed carbon-fiber weave. Additionally, there's a full-width rear spoiler with raised outboard sections, and a specific gauge cluster with boost gauge (also displayed on the head-up display) and 220-mph (370 km/h) speedometer readout. The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 has just two options, chrome wheels and a "luxury" package, with an estimated 3,350-pound (1,519 kg) curb weight.
