Chevrolet Impala SS

The 2006 Impala was first unveiled at the 2005 Los Angeles Auto Show. This model had a 3.5 L V6 engine that produced 211 hp. However, the most impressive news about the Impala was the SS model's use of the Generation IV small-block V8 with Displacement on Demand, delivering 303 hp - making it one of the most powerful front wheel drive vehicles in the world. It had dimensions of 200.4 in (509 cm) long, 58.7 in (149.1 cm) high, and 72.9 in (185.2 cm) wide and was based on the GM W platform, similar to the Ford Fusion and Honda Accord. The trim levels available were LS, LT, LTZ, and SS; also available were 9C1 & 9C3 trim levels for Police Package models, but without the civilian SS' 303 hp V8 engine, much to the disappointment of law enforcement. Critics noted that the front-wheel drive Impala lacked an aggressive exterior design. The interior was also overhauled, featuring a wood trim center console with chrome accents and a chrome Impala logo on the dashboard. New control knobs, found throughout the vehicle, were in line with those in the Buick and Cadillac DTS models. The cupholders were now concealed underneath the mid-section of the center console.
