Chevrolet Impala Sedan

The Impala returned to the lineup as the "Hi-Mid" program in 2000, replacing the Lumina. It was built at the Oshawa Car Assembly plant in Ontario, Canada, and was based on the Lumina's W-body platform. Available with three V6 engines and the option of front- or rear-wheel drive, the Impala had two trim levels. The base model that came standard with a 180 horsepower 3.4 liter LA1 V6 engine, cloth bench seats and a three-gauge instrument cluster. The LS featured a 200 horsepower 3.8 liter L36 V6 engine, cloth bucket seats with center console, anti-lock brakes, traction control and a four-gauge instrument cluster. Optional features included sunroof, heated power front seats, OnStar system, Driver Information Center with HomeLink feature and 16-inch wheels. A removable rear spoiler was available on base models and optional on the LS. In 2004, Impala SS was introduced with a 3.8 liter supercharged L67 V6 engine and was rated at 240 horsepower. This Impala was actually as quick as the revered 1990s Impala SS, with 0-60-mile-per-hour times pushing 6.5 seconds. A limited edition (4,088 produced) Impala Indy SS was also released that year to commemorate Howard Chevrolet's long-standing relationship with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Indianapolis 500 race. Also released in 2000 and 2001 were the Police Package (9C1) and Undercover Police Package (9C3), respectively. Exclusively for law enforcement, fire departments and EMS agencies, they boasted a stronger suspension, SURV MODE switch in lieu of the fog light switch and various paint and interior options.
