Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS 2006 posters

Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS

The 2006 Monte Carlo, together with its companion Impala sedan, was revealed at the 2005 Los Angeles Auto Show. It is powered by a 3.5 L V6 that produces 210 hp, but the most notable development is the SS variant's inclusion of the Generation IV small-block V8 - a 5.3 L V8 with 303 hp (226 kW). Measuring 55.8 in high, 72.9 in wide and 196.7 in long (142 cm by 185 cm by 500 cm), its dimensions are notable features, too. There is still a debate of whether the difference between the 2005 and 2006 model warrants the label of a new generation. Many of the same exterior body panels and glass have been retained, along with refinements like a "substantially revamped cockpit-style instrument panel with a new instrument layout and control center stack." (via Autoworld.com reposting of GM press release material) The seats and console have also been revised. However, with the completely new engine options for 2006 comes a change in the control arms, leading to a larger track and wheelbase. GM has yet to state if this change marks the beginning of the true seventh generation or if it is just a "refreshening" of the sixth generation, similar to the changes seen to the 1997 to 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix.
