Chevrolet Nomad 1957 posters

Chevrolet Nomad

The iconic Chevrolet Nomad, known for its unique two-door station wagon design, was produced by the Chevrolet Motor Division of the General Motors Corporation from 1955 to 1961. During its production, the Nomad was considered Chevrolet's halo model as it was commonly associated with the late 1950s/early 1960s "surf culture". The design of the Nomad was rooted in a General Motors Motorama show car of the same name which was based on the Corvette.

1955-1957

In 1955, the Chevy Nomad was introduced as a two-door station wagon that featured styling more reminiscent of a hardtop than a standard station wagon. The Nomad was offered alongside its sister model, the Pontiac Safari, and was well-received due to its developing popularity. At the end of the 1957 model year, General Motors discontinued the original Nomad to focus attention on the upcoming Chevrolet Impala.

1958-1961

For the 1958 model year, the Nomad name was reintroduced to the full-size four-door station wagon. The following year, the Nomad was allocated to the expanded Impala model range as its top-line vehicle. The Nomad was used through the end of the 1961 model year when all Chevrolet station wagons were given their parent model name.

1964 Through 1980's

The Nomad name was revived again in 1964 and 1965 for the two-door Chevelle station wagon. For the remainder of the 1960s, the Nomad acted as a low-level Chevelle station wagon. In the 1970s and early 1980s, it was available as a G-Series full-size van model.
