Second generation
The second-generation S-series trucks were released in 1994. This saw the end of the special models such as the Syclone, Typhoon, and Sonoma GT, but major updates to the truck brought it on par with the Ford Ranger. The Iron Duke and 2.8 L 60° V6 engines were dropped, leaving the 4.3 L Vortec and the newly-introduced 2.2 L engine, derived from the Cavalier OHV. A high-output version of the 4.3 was available in the SS model. Many of the chassis components were the same as those used in the first-generation S-series. The 4.3 L engine was upgraded in 1996, and a third door was added to the extended-cab models. The exterior, interior, brakes, and 2.2 L engine were all refurbished in 1998, and the Auto-Trac all-wheel drive was made available in 1999 for Blazers. The SS package was replaced by the "Xtreme" sports model package. In 2002, a CrewCab option was added, available for the 4WD and Automatic transmission models only. Base 2WD models featured 15x7 inch rims with directional vents, Xtremes and ZQ8 models had 16x8" rims, while 4WD models (including the ZR2) used 15x7" rims. The 14 inch rims used in the first generation were discontinued. Second-generation S-series were also made in Brazil and are still in production even though production in the US ended in 2004.Chevrolet S-10 1999 is an iconic classic vehicle.
