Chevrolet SSR 2001 posters

Chevrolet SSR

The Chevrolet SSR was a convertible pickup truck produced by General Motors from 2003 to 2006. Taking inspiration from the 2000 Detroit Auto Show's SuperSport Roadster concept car, the SSR was based on the large Chevrolet Trailblazer's platform with retro styling and a steel convertible top designed by ASC. The SSR was even chosen to be the pace car for the 2003 Indianapolis 500 race! The 2004 model sold below initial expectations, only managing to achieve 9,000 sales at an average of US$42,000 apiece. This was reflected in the factory's production output, as Citing a 301-day supply of SSRs, General Motors announced five weeks of layoffs at Lansing Craft Centre, the factory where the SSR was made. Ultimately, it was announced in November 2005 that the Craft Centre would be closed by mid-2006, and the last SSR was produced on March 17 of the same year. Analysts believe that 24,150 SSRs were produced in total. The SSR was initially equipped with General Motors’ Vortec 5300 engine, a 5.3 L 300 hp V8. It was later updated to include GM's LS2 V8 (390 hp) and then the LS2 V8 (400 hp - automatic transmission, 405 hp - manual transmission). The SSR was capable of getting from 0-60 mph in 7.7 seconds with a quarter-mile time of 15.9 seconds and 86.4 mph.
