Chevrolet Silverado

The Chevrolet Silverado and its GMC counterpart, the GMC Sierra, are the latest line of full-size pickup trucks from General Motors. As of 2006, this powerful pickup is the second-most popular vehicle in the United States, behind the Ford F-150. Although General Motors first introduced its pickup in 1930, the term "Silverado" was used to refer to a higher-level trim of the Chevrolet C/K pickup truck from 1975 through 1999. GMC's C/K also used the "Sierra" designation for its higher level trims from 1975 up until 1988 when the company decided to incorporate the name "Sierra" in all GMC pickups. The Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra are essentially the same, with a distinction being made between the "tougher" Silverado and the more luxury-based Sierra. Chevrolet Silverado SS Launched in 2003, the Silverado SS is a high-performance pickup truck from Chevrolet. It comes with a 6.0 liter Vortec High-Output V8 rated at 345 hp and 380 ft?lbf of torque, as well as an All Wheel Drive system that was later changed to Rear Wheel. Other features include the Z60 performance suspension, 20 inch chrome wheels, and special edition models such as the Intimidator SS. Hybrid In 2005, GM released a hybrid version of the Silverado/Sierra, becoming the first GM hybrid vehicle. It uses a mild hybrid design with a 5.3 L Vortec 5300 for primary power, and features 14 V batteries mounted under the rear seats for storing power. Additionally, the system shuts down automatically if the truck brakes below 13mph, and uses electric power to restart it.
