Chevrolet Suburban 2000 posters

Chevrolet Suburban

The Chevrolet Suburban is a large sport utility vehicle from General Motors. It has been one of the longest running vehicle models in the United States, with roots dating back to 1935. In the past, many automotive companies have made their own version of the "Suburban" – a windowed station wagon-type body on a commercial frame – including Dodge, Plymouth, Studebaker, Chevrolet, and GMC. However, with the discontinuance of the Dodge Town Wagon in 1966, only GM continued manufacturing a vehicle under the Suburban name. In 1988, they were presented with an exclusive trademark on the name. Today, the Suburban is recognized for its size and strength, sitting among other SUVs with three rows of seats and a normal-sized cargo area. The original Suburban, released by Chevrolet in 1935, featured an all-steel construction. It was soon followed by GMC's version of the Suburban in 1937. These vehicles were referred to as the "Suburban Carryall" until the 1980s, when the SUV craze brought along the simplified moniker of "Suburban". Chevrolet maintained the exclusive use of the Suburban name until 2000, after which the GMC version of the vehicle was renamed the "Yukon XL". Along with the Suburban, the Chevrolet line also includes the Tahoe, GMC Yukon, and Cadillac Escalade, while the Cadillac Escalade ESV runs with only 8 seating capacity. There is also a pickup bed option known as the Chevrolet Avalanche and Cadillac Escalade EXT. The 90s and 2000s have seen Chevy's Suburban becoming a popular use by police departments, fire departments, EMS operations, and private hire-car companies. Although these vehicles have powerful V8 engines, their large size results in less than ideal fuel economy and excessive bulk. Currently, the Chevrolet Suburbans come in either a 1/2 ton or a 3/4 ton model, with various trim levels from the base, LS, LT, Z71 to the LTZ trim. The first four options come with a Vortec 5300 V8 engine, while the latter is fitted with a Vortec 6000, with higher horsepower and torque. The 3/4 ton models come with either the Vortec 6000 or Vortec 8100 engine, and can either be 2WD or 4WD, with the exception of the LTZ, which is AWD. The latest model, Revealed at the 2006 Los Angeles Auto Show, the 2007 Suburban and Yukon XL feature a redesigned interior with higher quality materials, improved leather-seating options, and a larger DVD-player/Navigation Radio screen. The overall length of the Suburban has also been increased by two inches.
