Chevrolet Tracker Turbo

In 1999, the Sidekick was replaced by the second generation Tracker, the successor to the Grand Vitara. The North American-exclusive Tracker was still sold as a Suzuki Vitara in the North American market, though it was shorter than the Grand Vitara. In Mexico, the second-generation Tracker remained in production and retailed as the Chevrolet Tracker. Four years later in 2004, the Tracker series was discontinued in the United States and Canada, while the LJ80/Jimny continued to be produced in other Suzuki plants. Furthermore, some Trackers and Sidekicks were made in a Suzuki factory located in Kosai, Japan. Compared to the first generation Tracker that was sold in 1998's Geo brand discontinuation as the Chevrolet Vitara, later Tracker models (1999 and up) featured lighter automobile-type rack and pinion steering. These models were not as in-demand by off-road users since the rack and pinion was easy to damage and expensive to fix. In Latin America, the 1st generation Tracker was retailed as the Chevrolet Vitara, while the 2nd generation Tracker was sold as the Chevrolet Grand Vitara. Chevrolet also marketed the Suzuki Vitara/Grand Vitara as the Chevrolet Vitara/Grand Vitara in Colombia, Ecuador, and Venezuela. Meanwhile, the Grand Vitara was sold as the Suzuki Grand Vitara in Argentina. In Brazil and Mexico, the Tracker was sold as the Chevrolet Tracker with just a logo change. Finally, on January 27, 2004, production of the Chevrolet Tracker at the CAMI plant in Ingersoll, Ontario was concluded and was soon replaced with the Chevrolet Equinox.
