Chevrolet Venture 2001 posters

Chevrolet Venture

The Chevrolet Venture was a minivan manufactured by Chevrolet, GM's division from 1997-2004 model years. It was a successor to the Chevrolet Lumina APV. It was also sold in Europe under the name Opel Sintra and Vauxhall in UK. Opel participated in the van's development. During the 2004 model year, the Venture was replaced by the Chevrolet Uplander.

History

The Venture was first rolled out in 1996 for the 1997 model year as the Lumina APV's replacement. It was also merchandised as Pontiac Montana, Oldsmobile Silhouette in the US. All the minivans featured GM's 3400 V6 motor rated at 180 hp, which got a 5-hp enhancement in 1999 for a total of 185 hp. The transmission was a 4-speed automated one and also had an optional all-wheel drive feature from 2002. It was rather unfavorably compared to its competitors due to the cramped cabin, a result of aiming the vehicle primarily for European roads. It was available in both short and long wheel bases and had a third row seat that could be folded flat but formed a higher floor unlike minivans made by Honda and Mazda. A Warner Brothers edition released in 2000 included a DVD entertainment system which was quite revolutionary in its time. The exterior was revamped in 2001. In 2005, Venture was replaced by Uplander which was basically a facelift with a longer wheelbase and a longer nose meant to improve crush time and convert it to an SUV-style design. The long wheelbase Ventures were the only ones sold in 2005.
