The Chevrolet Volt is an all-new, 2011 electric vehicle created by Chevrolet that is built to provide the benefits of an electric vehicle with no range restrictions. With its five-door, four-passenger design, it was developed in 29 months and went on sale before the end of 2010. Offered in a very well-equipped standard trim level, it also has two option packages— a Premium Trim Package and a Rear Camera and Park Assist Package.
The Volt is not a hybrid, it is one-of-a-kind with a Voltec propulsion system combining a 16-kWh lithium-ion battery pack and electric drive unit which can provide an electric range of 25 to 50 miles, depending on terrain, driving techniques, and temperature. Additionally, the 1.4L gas-powered engine enables another 310 miles of range extended operation, allowing the Volt to be plugged in and recharged or refueled at any time. With this kind of power and performance, the Chevrolet Volt is in a class by itself.
