Chrysler Crossfire SRT6 Roadster

The Chrysler Crossfire is a stylish rear-wheel drive sports car produced by DaimlerChrysler's Chrysler marque. It replaced the Plymouth/Chrysler Prowler and is built for DaimlerChrysler by Karmann in Germany. The Crossfire shares more than half of its components, such as its interior, drivetrain and most of its chassis, with the preceding-generation Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class. It is available as a coupe and a roadster. It got its name from the distinctive character lines that run from front to rear along the body sides, creating an upward facing surface over the rear fender that crosses in the middle of the door to form a downward facing surface at the front fender - an allusion to the merger between Chrysler and Daimler-Benz. FeaturesThe standard transmission is a 6-speed manual, while a 5-speed automatic is available as an option. The base Crossfire was first sold in the 2004 model year, and it is powered by a 3.2 L, 18-valve, SOHC V6 engine giving 215 hp and 229 ft·lbf of torque. This was the last year for the SLK, and since the 2005 model year, the SLK has had a brand new Vision SLR platform and looks. So, the Crossfire is the only car based on the older chassis. For the 2005 model year, Chrysler released both a Crossfire convertible and an SRT-6 version, equipped with a supercharged high-performance powertrain producing 330 hp and 310 ft·lbf of torque. It comes with additional suspension, brakes and cosmetic upgrades. SalesThe sales of the Crossfire were not stellar, with it taking a year to sell them in November 2005 with an average 230 day supply. However, it outperformed its predecessor, the Plymouth/Chrysler Prowler. In December, the cars were listed on Overstock.com in order to clear the inventory. There were very few Crossfires imported to the US and Mexico in 2006, and almost all of these were roadsters. Although there is a 2006 model for Europe and Canada, Chrysler intends to make a full return to the US and Mexican markets in the 2007 version. Here are the sales figures for the Crossfire since its introduction: 2003: 35,700; 2004: 28,000; 2005: 12,500.
