Citroen DS 23 Break

The Citroën DS (known as "Déesse" or Goddess, due to its name in French) was an auto produced by the French producer Citroën between 1955 and 1975. Close to 1.5 million DS models were sold in its two decades of productions, famously due to its aerodynamic body design and advanced technology, such as its hydropneumatic self-leveling suspension system. The car established a new benchmark in automobile handling, ride, roadholding, and braking for its time. Its futuristic appearance also stood out, and it wasn't until the post-Ford Taurus/Audi 100 era that its style was seen again. Model history The DS 19 was first introduced on October 5, 1955 at the Paris Motor Show. Impressed by its exterior and engineering, 743 orders were immediately taken, and 12,000 orders for the first day alone. Critical opinion noted how the DS pushed the envelope in a car's ride and handling. Despite good reviews, the high price hindered its availability for many, so a cheaper variant, the ID (or "Idée", in French) was launched in 1957. It featured a similar body, but conventional control of the clutch and transmission as opposed to hydraulics. The 11D, a reminder of the last model of the Traction Avant 11C, was the original model, and a station wagon variant, the ID Break, was introduced in 1958.
