Daihatsu Charade
Introduced in 1994, the fourth generation Daihatsu Charade had both a hatchback body and a sedan body. In Japan, the base model was a 1.0 L engine, while many European countries got an SOHC 1.3 L version. The sedan had a 1.5 L engine with optional 4WD. Diesel models were no longer available in all markets it had been previously released in.
The turbocharged GTti version was replaced by the De Tomaso designed GTi with an SOHC 16-valve 1.6 L engine. For the Japanese market, this engine produced 124 hp JIS (91 kW), though it was detuned to 105 hp DIN (77 kW) for exported models. The De Tomaso addition also brought a bodykit, Recaro seats, a Nardi Torino steering wheel, and Pirelli sports tyres. In total, around 120,000 Daihatsu Charade GTi were made.
In 1996, two years after the initial release, the Daihatsu Charade was restyled with a 'smiley face' grille, changed headlights - making it look more like the Toyota Starlet - and was produced until 2000. It was then replaced by the Sirion/Storia.
