The Daihatsu Copen sports car, noted for its timeless cute looks and nimble handling, has become even more attractive with the installation of a 1.3 litre engine that provides punch yet is also economical. And to make it even better, the car now has a price tag of just £10,995, a saving of £2,500 compared to the original model offered in 2004. Previously produced for the Japanese Kei-car market, Daihatsu Vehicle Distributors Limited was able to get the factory to re-engineer the tiny 660 cc turbo petrol engine to meet European Whole Vehicle Type Approval. The installation of the 87 PS engine, the same as that found in the Sirion supermini, boosts both the Copen's performance and economy, while also providing more relaxed cruising with the addition of a higher gearing. Apart from a small rear boot spoiler and a series of new colours, the car's uncluttered shape remains unchanged. Daihatsu Managing Director Paul Tunnicliffe commented that they are all car enthusiasts at Daihatsu and were enthusiastic about bringing the original model to the UK market. With the powerful and cost-effective engine, he shared his delight in offering fellow car enthusiasts with such a fun and affordable car.
