Daihatsu Sirion

The Daihatsu Sirion is a subcompact hatchback that was first produced in 1998. It came with two petrol engines (with multi-point fuel injection): a 1.0 litre 3-cylinder producing 54 bhp (40 kW) and a 1.3 litre 4-cylinder delivering 86 bhp (64 kW) (shared with the Toyota Yaris). Buyers have a choice between 5-speed manual and automatic gearbox. As of 2001, the 1.3L model bumped up to 102 bhp (76 kW) and can go from 0-60 mph in 9.6 seconds with a top speed of 111 mph (179 km/h). The Sirion was also available in two rally versions: Rally 2 and Rally 4, with the latter being the 4WD version. It produced 108 bhp (81 kW) accelerating from 0-60 mph in a more swift 8.1 seconds and reaching a top speed of 115 mph (185 km/h). The 4Track or 4WD was the 4WD version of the base model 1.3, while the F-Speed model featured Formula-1 style paddle gear changers. For the Australian market, the 1.0 litre was available up to 2001 when the sporty 1.3L model (also known as the GTvi or the Toyota Duet) came with a powerful 101 bhp (75 kW) at 7500 rpm. In 2001, the Daihatsu Sirion went through a facelift; the front grille was changed to look sportier and some models have the silver accents on the sides taken out. The interior benefitted from a redesigned dashboard with more storage space and user-friendly controls.
