Dodge Durango

The Dodge Durango was marketed as a durable truck-based SUV with room for up to seven passengers and the capability to tow up to 7,500 lb (3,400 kg) when properly equipped. Its front end, instrument panel, and front seats were shared with the Dakota pickup it was based on. The original design had a rear-facing third row, but this was changed to a more practical, forward-facing seat to accommodate a longer length of the front doors and a raised roof of two inches. The raised roof was masked by a roof rack. The 4.7 L Magnum V8 replaced the 5.2 L Magnum V8 engine in 2000, but the 5.2 was available in some early-model 2000s. In 1999 and 2000, a limited-edition Shelby S.P.360 version was released with a supercharged 5.9 L engine that boasted 360 hp (270 kW; 360 PS) and 412 lb·ft (559 N·m) of torque. It came with Viper blue paint featuring two racing stripes, and went from 0-60 mph in 7.1 seconds with a top speed of 142 mph (229 km/h). Model year changes In 1999, the Durango was made available with two-wheel drive in addition to a 3.9 L Magnum V6 engine, although few were purchased. The following year came with two new color options, and notable options included 6 in × 9 in (150 mm × 230 mm) heated rear view mirrors and steering wheel-mounted radio controls. Leather seats became standard on SLT Plus models, and body-color wheel flares were standard on SLT Plus and four-wheel drive models.
