Dodge Grand Caravan
Its development lasted for nearly five years, from early 1990 to December 26, 1994. The 1996 model was presented at the 1995 North American International Auto Show and was equipped with the Chrysler S platform. It featured numerous breakthroughs such as a driver's side sliding door, a first for Chrysler along with the four-door, non-compact minivan for the US and Canada. With its third generation, Chrysler launched the Easy Out Roller Seats seat management system. From thereon, the van had a door handle and lock on its rear hatch eliminating the confusing pop-and-lift maneuver.
The Dodge Grand Caravan's base models were accessible with either a 2.4-liter four-cylinder or the 3.0-liter Mitsubishi 6G72 V6 engine, with the 3.3-liter motor being provided in several northeastern states where the Mitsubishi wasn't meeting the emission requirements. The 2.4L engine produced more power than the Mitsubishi 3.0 had in the first two generations. It went on to become the North American Car of the Year award in 1996, along with the Plymouth Voyager and Chrysler Town & Country. 1999 saw the 15th anniversary "Platinum Edition", and all variants got facelifts while the Sport and ES models got even sportier styling.
