Dodge PowerBox Concept

Introducing the Dodge PowerBox hybrid concept vehicle at the 2001 Greater Los Angeles Auto Show, DaimlerChrysler Corporation reveals a rugged SUV that combines the company’s bold and recognized design elements with an advanced powertrain that is gentle on the environment. Offering the performance of a powerful V-8 engine, the PowerBox showcases 60 percent higher fuel efficiency than a comparable vehicle, paired with near zero emissions. Designed by Mark Allen, Senior Designer at DaimlerChrysler Corporation, the exterior of the concept SUV features genes from the successful 1999 Dodge Power Wagon concept vehicle. It’s detailed with large, separate drop fenders reminiscent of the classic 1946 Power Wagon, along with the iconic ‘crosshair’ grill. Powered by a combination of a supercharged V-6 engine that runs on clean compressed natural gas (CNG) and an electric motor, the PowerBox is a vehicle with conscience, said Richard Schaum, Executive Vice President, Product Development & Quality, DaimlerChrysler Corporation. The advanced ‘through-the-road’ (TTR) technology provides the perfect balance between an environmentally-friendly ride and desired performance and utility.
