Dodge Ram 1500

The 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 brought a major update compared to the previous generation. It included a new frame, suspension, powertrains, interiors, and sheet metal. The unique "Quad Cab" set-up had conventional-opening rear doors for the crew cab models. The four-wheel-drive light trucks (1500 series) lost their live axles and gained an independent front suspension, while the 2500 and 3500 series kept the live axles. This upgrade led to very successful sales with 400,000 sold in the first two years.

However, when compared to the competition, the Dodge Ram 1500 could not keep up despite its incredible sales performances. The main reason was the lack of a true crew cab to compete with Ford and other manufacturers.

2006 Facelift

The 2006 Dodge Ram was updated with an impressive array of features. It added the "Mega Cab" with a 6.25-foot (2 m) cargo box and 22 inches (560 mm) of extra cab space, Bluetooth U Connect and a front facelift for all Ram models. A full screen mapping in-dash navigation system became an option, plus new headlamps for improved performance and SIRIUS Satellite Radio. Not to mention the rear seat DVD entertainment system with wireless headphones.

The 2006 facelift also adopted the Dodge Dakota and Dodge Durango steering wheel design. Unfortunately, the SRT model, with the 8.3 L V10 engine from the Dodge Viper SRT/10 that had been running since the previous year, was discontinued.
