Dodge Ram Mega Cab 2006 posters

Dodge Ram Mega Cab

The third-generation Dodge Ram was presented in February 2001 at the Chicago Auto Show, introducing a range of new features for the 2002 model year on 1500 and 2003 on 2500 and 3500 models. This model was highly improved with an all-new frame, suspension, powertrains, interiors, and sheet metal. The crew cab editions of this generation had standard-opening rear doors. The four-wheel-drive light trucks (1500 series) had their rear axles exchanged for an independent front suspension, while the 2500 and 3500 series stayed with the live axles to ensure superior durability. The redesigned trucks made an immediate mark with 400,000 units sold in the 2001-2002 period and nearly 450,000 sold from 2002-2003, leading to a new record in the Dodge Ram name. Meanwhile, Ford and GM trucks experienced a boost in sales from around 850,000 in 2001 to the 900,000 range. Yet, in 2004 the Ram was outsold by the eleventh-generation F-150, due to the lack of a true crew cab model to equal Ford's offering. 2006 Facelift In 2006 the Dodge Ram saw a range of updates, most prominently the addition of the "Mega Cab" featuring a 6.25-foot (2 m) cargo box and 22 inches (560 mm) of extra cab space with seating for six and rear recliners. Other novelties include a full-screen mapping in-dash navigation system, redesign of the headlamps for better performance, a revised steering wheel design from the Dodge Dakota and Dodge Durango, Bluetooth U Connect, front facelift for all Ram models, SIRIUS Satellite Radio and a rear seat DVD entertainment system with wireless headphones. The SRT model, featuring an 8.3 L V10 engine from the Dodge Viper SRT/10, was discontinued after the 2006 model year.
