Dodge Ram Quad Cab

The Ram line underwent a redesign for the 1994 model year. In 1986, development for the second generation began and ended in late 1992. When Phillip E. Payne, the chief designer, showed Bob Lutz an originally scheduled 1991 production that simply resembled the other existing trucks, Lutz gave Payne a challenge to come up with a better design within just 6 months. The new design which was eventually released featured a rugged big-rig-style front end, and a large grille design unlike the other Ford or Chevy/GMC pickups. This redesign saw immense success in the sales, with the figures jumping from 78,000 units in 1993 to nearly 480,000 in 1996. Additionally, it was featured as the hero vehicle in the Twister movie released that year. Despite this success, the sales declined against the newly redesigned competitiors, and by 2001, Ram sales were below Ford and Chevy trucks. Engine offerings for the redesigned Ram included the 3.9 L V6, 5.2 L V8, 5.9 L V8, and 5.9 L I6 Cummins turbo diesel. Also added was a 488 cubic inch 8.0L V10, designed to provide superior pulling power for those who didn't want a diesel. These could only be found in the 2500 and higher designation models. Models varied from the 1500 half-ton, 2500 three-quarter-ton, and 3500 dual-rear-wheel one-ton, and came in two- and four-wheel drive. Besides being equipped with either a 6.5- or 8-foot box, the 1500 Rams also had a choice between club and quad cabs, while the 3500 Rams were the only model with the crew cab long box. These were specially developed for Canada and are quite rare.
